Come To Burnchurch National School
Burnchurch N.S is a small, country school located in Cuffesgrange Co. Kilkenny. We have just over 60 pupils always enthusiastic to learn everything they can while in school. We have many teachers, resource teachers and SNAs making it fun and easy to learn in class.
The good thing about being a small school is that the classes are smaller than in other bigger schools, making it easier for the teachers to give each student the attention and support they need while learning. This way of teaching lets the student learn faster and more efficiently leading them to be able to achieve more as they get older.
We stress how important reading is to our students and do a reading program every year called Accelerated Reader. It motivates students to read as much as possible and as they reach checkpoints in their reading level they get a reward. We also focus very much on other subjects such as Irish, maths and English. Our new interactive whiteboards have definitely improved how students are learning in school because now not only are they learning orally, but they are learning visually.
As well as focusing on the academic achievements of our students, we take a holistic approach in helping our students to learn. Every year we have many people come in to do fun activities with the students including soccer, basketball, music, dancing and more. These are spread out over the school year so it is as enjoyable as possible and so no child feels that they are doing too much of the same kind of work.
Burnchurch has competed in many competitions including debating, Green Schools Awards and the SEAI One Good Idea competition in which we were awarded first place last year. We have also competed in numerous sporting events with our schools hurling and camogie teams and soccer teams.
Unlike many other schools, Burnchurch has a big yard for Lunch-Time with a large grass area to play on alongside a freshly lined basketball court and astro- turf. This leaves our students with as much room to play any game they like.
Burnchurch is the school to go to because everyone is so nice and we will welcome you completely.
